In addition to free maintenance and after-sales services of the Sinocare blood glucose meter, it could also screen chronic diseases for free. After reconfirming with the friendly customer service sister that all the tests were free of charge, Grandma Li has taken a series of tests including blood glucose, four blood lipid items, blood uric acid, and blood ketone under the professional guidance of customer service personnel. The test results showed that Grandma Li was high in triglyceride indicator, which should be paid more attention to.
‘It’s more convenient than going to the hospital and waiting in a long line for a check-up; when taking a walk, she can get them done, by the way, moreover, they are free. I have to get my husband tested too.’ Grandma Li couldn't wait to get home to share the new news. Based on the introduction made by the customer service personnel of the outlet, like Grandma Li, there are many middle-aged and elderly people who show abnormal indicators in blood glucose, blood lipid, uric acid, or triglyceride after a series of screenings. If they are not detected and treated early, it is easily to lead to a series of chronic diseases including diabetes, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, cancers, and chronic respiratory diseases.
The Report on the Situations of Nutrition and Chronic Diseases in China (2015) promulgated by the National Health and Family Planning Commission shows that the prevalence of hypertension and diabetes in adults was 25.2% and 9.7% respectively, which are both on the rise. It may be seen that chronic diseases have become a kind of disease to threaten the health of residents in China and affected the major public health problem in the development of the national economy and society. There are many reasons for the growth of chronic diseases. They are not only caused by bad living habits, including smoking, drinking, unreasonable diet and lack of exercise, and the changes in diet structure but also related to increasing social pressure and environmental impact. In addition, as the population is getting older, the number of persons with chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, and cancer has been increasing.
Under the above-mentioned situations, chronic diseases have received widespread attention. On February 14, 2017, China’s Medium- and Long-term Plan for the Prevention and Control of Chronic Diseases (2017-2025) issued by the General Office of the State Council made a detail planning for the prevention and control of chronic diseases, the improvement of the residents’ healthy life expectancy and the promotion of the construction of a healthy China in the next five to 10 years. To emphasize the prevention of chronic diseases, it is necessary to focus on monitoring the indicators such as blood pressure, blood glucose, blood lipid, body weight, lung function, and fecal occult blood, promote the health examination of residents, facilitate the early detection of chronic diseases and gradually carry out the disease risk assessment and intervention guidance of high-risk groups with chronic diseases.
